1. Obtain emergency assistance as required (e.g. police, ambulance, fire department)

2. Prevent deterioration of the situation. Provide assistance for any injured parties.

3. Fill out an incident report form as soon as possible, while details are still fresh and those involved are still at the scene. Ensure that the form is legible and complete.

4. Obtain witness statements including their name(s), address(es), and telephone number(s). Please ensure comments are restricted to factual statements only - avoid narratives and opinions.

5. If possible, take photographs, videotape or draw a diagram of the incident or accident site (include warning signs, posters etc.).

6. Call King Insurance as soon as possible after the incident occurs.
Phone: (204) 661-2629

  • Never admit or discuss liability verbally or in writing.
  • Attach any letter(s) or threat of claim, Writ of Summons, or any relevant documentation to the incident report form.
  • If a claim or threat of a claim has been made, do not attend or agree to attend any meetings called to discuss the claim or threat of claim without prior consultation with your insurer’s representative.
  • Do not release any information to the media without further assistance.
  • Notify staff not to speak to any third parties or media regarding the incident.
8. In Case of Property Damage (If a dangerous situation exists, cordon off the area or cover roof and window openings to prevent further damage to the site):

Gather inventory lists, schedules of buildings, sales and food receipts, maintenance records for equipment, records of usage and repair or any other documentation which may speed the timely settlement of your claim.

  • Contact your accountant for your most recent financial statements for business interruption claims.
  • Prepare a schedule of loss for comparison with inventory records.
  • Don’t start clean-up operations until an adjuster arrives to assess the damage.
9. In Case of a Crime Incident:
  • Protect the crime scene to aid police investigations.
  • Obtain statements from witnesses as soon as possible while details are still fresh.
  • Calculate value of items stolen (e.g. deposits, property, etc.) and damage to property (e.g. doors, windows, walls, safe etc.)
  • Do not release any information to the media without further assistance.
  • Notify staff not to speak to any third parties or media regarding the incident.

If at any point during this process you have questions or concerns about how to proceed, contact King Insurance.
